Molecular and Mechanistic Toxicology Graduate Program

Track in Molecular & Mechanistic Toxicology

Research opportunities in Molecular & Mechanistic Toxicology Track focus on mechanisms of cellular and organism responses to environmental agents, drugs and radiation in mammalian systems. A major focus of faculty research is on environment-gene interactions and its effect on cellular growth and differentiation and an organism's development, health and susceptibility to diseases.


Students receive basic teaching in cell biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, pathology, pharmacology, molecular toxicology and biostatistics.


Students utilize modern molecular biology, biochemical, and knockout animal model approaches to investigate complex biological processes including oxidative and free radical stress, signaling in cell survival and death, cell cycle control, cell proliferation and differentiation, carcinogenesis, chemoprotection, developmental abnormalities, gene polymorphism and genetic susceptibility to diseases, cardiovascular and renal system protection and toxicity, neurotoxicity and neuroprotection, aging, and mechanisms of drug action and drug development
