Toxicology and Enironmental Health Graduate Program

Course Work Timeline

Year 1-2:

  • Courses- 30 Credits
  • Three Rotations
  • Select Mentor

Year 03:

  • Start your thesis work with the selected Mentor.
  • Set up Graduate Committee consisting of five faculty members in addition to Co-Directors. Two members have to be outside the home department. Mentor functions as chair of the committee
  • Take Qualifying Exam
  • Write Abstracts for three non-thesis proposals
    • Submit to the Track Co-Director who will take a committee vote. Abstract with maximum votes will be selected for student to write full-length proposal (Maximum 15 Pages including figures and references.
      Set a date for qualifying exam. Student presents the proposal before the committee. Student will be tested on the proposal and other questions related to courses taken and the current affairs in science.
      Grades will be PASS, MARGINAL PASS and FAIL. Complete requirements of changing MARGINAL PASS to PASS. Retake a second and final time exam in case of FAIL.

Year 03-Until Completion:

  • Graduate Committee meets with the student every six months. It is student's responsibility to organize these meetings and ask Mentor to submit the report of progress.
  • All the members have to be present and agree when asking permission to write Ph.D. thesis.
  • Write and submit your thesis at least two weeks before the date of defense.
  • Defend your thesis by open presentation followed by close door meeting with the committee.
  • Complete the requirements.
